AUGUSTA EMERITA

The special exhibition will take place from Thursday, October 3, 2024 to Sunday, January 12, 2025 in the new APXplore in the LVR Archaeological Park. The entrance fee is included in the park entrance fee!
The new special exhibition brings the splendor of "Spanish Rome" to the Lower Rhine. Over 200 selected exhibits bear witness to the history of a unique metropolis.
Rome's metropolis in Spain
Augusta Emerita, today's Mérida, was a center of Roman power and culture in Spain. To this day, impressive remains from Roman times shape the cityscape. Over 200 loans from the Museo Nacional de Arte Romano de Mérida bring the world of Roman Spain to the Lower Rhine. Marble statues, magnificent mosaic floors and filigree gold jewelry show the eventful history of this ancient city from its founding to the rule of the Visigoths and the Islamic Emirate.

APXplore

The newly built APXplore is located in the direct neighbourhood of the Inclusive Wood Workshop and the Limes Pavilion. The building offers space for special exhibitions and educational rooms. The latest standards of accessibility and ecological construction were implemented during the construction of the APXplore.
The 520 m² exhibition area, which occupies the entire upper floor, forms the centrepiece of the new building. The special exhibition ‘AUGUSTA EMERITA - Rome's Metropolis in Spain’ can be seen in this space from 3 October 2024 to 12 January 2025.
