Research

The LVR-APX preserves an archaeological monument of European importance. Ongoing excavations and diverse research projects make Xanten an important site for Roman archaeology.

The LVR-APX is therefore also a centre for a wide range of research projects. The scientists at the site work in close co-operation with universities, museums and other research institutions.

Research is only complete when it is available to the public. Here you will find a compilation of the scientific publications of the LVR Archaeological Park.

Publications

Every year, the International Archaeological Summer Academy Xanten introduces students from all over Europe to the excavation trade in the Roman city's historic grounds.

Excavations are an integral part of the work at the APX. Not only archaeologists, but also students can take up the trowel and learn the art of excavation in the historically significant ground.

Opening hours

From 1 March to the last Saturday in October (end of summer time) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
From the last Sunday in October (start of winter time) to 28 February from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Park and museum are closed on December 24, 25 and 31. Open on New Year's Day.
