Families

Families can look forward to an unforgettable day full of adventure and discovery at the LVR Archaeological Park in Xanten! Here, children can not only watch, but also get involved and immerse themselves in the fascinating world of the Romans. Whether exploring the impressive steps and vaults of the amphitheatre or discovering the mysterious underground storeroom in the Roman hostel – every step becomes an exciting adventure.
In the LVR-RömerMuseum, 30 interactive stations offer the opportunity to discover the Roman era. Here, visitors of all ages can try things out and approach the world of the Romans in a playful way. A special highlight are the traditional Roman games, where young and old alike can prove their skills – without any digital distractions.
Additional fun is provided by the large adventure playground, the water playground and the huge bouncy castle, which captivate children and give adults the opportunity to enjoy relaxing moments in the sheltered park grounds.
The park is perfect for satisfying children's curiosity: informative text and image panels and a printed short guide, which can be purchased in the shop for three euros, provide exciting answers to their questions. In addition, our multimedia guide provides information about the Archaeological Park and the Roman Museum in German, English, Dutch and French, as well as in easy language and German sign language. The guide can be borrowed from the ticket office at the LVR-Roman Museum and costs three euros.
Those who want to learn more about Roman history can take part in the open guided tours at the weekend and discover the secrets of temples, gates and thermal baths.

The KaffeeMühle also offers a selection of dishes that change daily, such as fresh salads, soups and Roman meatballs.

Electric tourist train "APXpress"

An electric tourist train will run through the Archaeological Park from May 2025. The "APXpress" will allow visitors with limited mobility to explore the entire park.

To use the tourist train, a day ticket must be purchased. This ticket can be bought at the park entrances and costs €2 for adults and €1 for children.
