Guided tours of the excavations
A visit to the ongoing excavations at the LVR Archaeological Park Xanten reveals the surprises and treasures that lie beneath the ground. During the excavation tour, you will get a glimpse into the world beneath the turf and learn about the methods used by modern science to trace life in the Roman city. If you wish, you can also hold typical Roman finds in your hands, such as roof tiles, shards or bone waste, and discover what they tell us about the lives of people in Roman times.

Cost: €40
Group size: maximum 15 people
Dates: March to October
Meeting point: Craftsmen's houses
Night-time tours
In the dim light of Roman lamps, the LVR Archaeological Park Xanten reveals its mysterious side. What do we know about nightlife in the ancient city? What dangers lurked in the dark alleys, what myths surrounded the constellations in the Roman sky? Sparsely lit living spaces offer atmospheric glimpses into private life. A trip to the amphitheatre leads to dark vaults where gladiators had to wait for their fight.
