Inclusion
The LVR Archaeological Park Xanten aims to meet the needs and wishes of all visitors to the park and bring the Roman era to life for everyone.
Please contact us in good time. We will be happy to take the time to provide you with detailed advice and look forward to helping you with your planning and on site.
The design and operation of barrier-free facilities is an ongoing process that is, by its very nature, never completely finished. We seek advice from various experts in this area. For example, the LVR Roman Museum has been officially tested and certified for accessibility by the German Seminar for Tourism. You can view the details listed on the German website.

Important information: Please register in advance for your visit by calling +49 2801 (0) 988-9213 or sending an email to xanten@kulturinfo-rheinland.de. This will allow us to tailor the tour to your needs and ensure that the group does not become too large.
Accessibility of the park and museum
Large parts of the Archaeological Park are accessible to visitors with limited mobility. Wheelchairs and walkers are available to borrow free of charge at the ticket office.
2000 years ago, the Roman city of Colonia Ulpia Traiana was located exactly where the APX is today. The paths are therefore not modern asphalt, but consist of gravel and sand. They are regularly repaired to ensure they are accessible for wheelchairs and prams. However, during prolonged rain, the ground becomes soft and difficult to navigate.
The reconstructions of the Roman houses are also largely accessible to visitors with limited mobility. For architectural reasons, there are thresholds and steps in some places, which can be easily overcome with mobile ramps. However, it is not possible to visit the upper floors of the craftsmen's houses. The LVR Roman Museum is, of course, completely barrier-free.

Several toilet facilities for visitors with limited mobility are available in the park grounds. In addition, selected toilet facilities have baby changing facilities for children and adults.
The adventure playground and the water playground can be used with or without a wheelchair.
Electric tourist train "APXpress"
Since May 2025, an electric tourist train runs through the Archaeological Park. The "APXpress" will allow visitors with limited mobility to explore the entire park.
The train will stop at seven stations. It operates daily from March to October, from 10am to 5pm, and offers seating, wheelchair space and storage for walkers. Prams, balance bikes and wagon carts are not allowed.
To use the tourist train, a day ticket must be purchased. This ticket can be bought at the park entrances and costs €2 for adults and €1 for children.
Individual guided tours
You are welcome to book a guided tour for your group. Depending on the booking, the tour lasts 60 or 90 minutes and can be tailored to your personal wishes. The cost is €40 (60 minutes) or €60 (90 minutes).
Visitors with visual impairments and blind visitors
The museum has numerous objects that can be touched by visitors with visual impairments and blind visitors. A number of exhibition areas, such as “The Origin of Stones” in the Building and Technology pavilion and the herb garden of the Roman inn, have tactile information boards with Braille and raised lettering.
Especially for visitors with visual impairments and blind visitors, we offer bookable guided tours that make Roman history a tangible experience.
Information for deaf and hard-of-hearing visitors
Are you visiting with a group in which everyone knows German sign language? Then your group can be accompanied by a deaf guide.
The visit can be booked individually. The tour lasts 60 or 90 minutes, depending on your preferences. The cost is €40 (60 minutes) or €62 (90 minutes). Please register at least four weeks before the desired date. You can register here:
